Wrapping up 4th Grade...

Its so hard to believe that 4th grade is over and that my baby will be in 5th grade next year! I don't feel old enough to have a 5th grader! I am amazed when I look at Katrena at how much she has grown and changed over the last few years, she is no longer my little girl.

For 4th grade at the end of the year, here in California, they have to do a California Missions Project. It is a state requirement where they have to pick one of the missions and then either do a written report, build a model, visit the mission and do a scrapbook of it, etc. Katrena chose to do a scrapbook of the San Gabriel Mission (which is the closest to us at 1.5 hours away), we made it a mommy daughter date visiting the mission and going out to eat just the two of us.

We were lucky enough to be visiting the mission at the same time that a photographer/news reporter was there getting information and they allowed us to tag along. This meant that we got to learn much more detailed info than we would have learned just wandering around and we were able to go into areas that are not allowed to the public, including ringing the bell.



We received a private tour from John Fantz who has been working/volunteering at the mission since he was 14 years old!

Working on her scrapbook, it took us 23.5 hours, but she got 100% and her scrapbook rocked! She took all of her own photos and put the scrapbook together all on her own.

On June 15th the awards assembly was held for the 4th and 5th graders, Katrena won the award for top reader in her 4th grade class. Not only had she read the most books, but had the most points on the books read. Not only did she receive an awesome metal, but she also one a chair in her class. Her teacher had two chairs that were at the front of the classroom, the top scorer in math and reading for the week got to sit in the chairs to do their work the whole following week. Trena got to sit in the chair almost every week of the year. The top math and reading students for the year got to keep the chairs at the end of the year. She was so excited and proud of herself. Her teacher is going to drop the chair off to us this summer.
